Castlerea
While there appears to be no actual squash club in Castlerea, there are two good courts. They are located at the rear of St. Kevin’s GAA Club on the outskirts of the town. There are viewing galleries on both courts. However these are separated from the courts by fixed vertical bars which makes refereeing a match or coaching difficult. One can only presume that these were added to prevent children falling off the galleries onto the courts. There is no junior programme.
At present there is no heating and the use of single yellow or red dot ball is recommended depending on the actual temperature.
The ‘club’ has some very enthusiastic squash players many of whom work in the local prison. One of the players has actually constructed a private squash court adjoining his residence.
